POS '07 Taurus brake issues

My mom is having issues with her '07 Taurus brakes.. It happened a month or so ago first, where the brakes went to the floor. still had enough braking ( front and rear ) to drive around with. Master cylinder still full.. she took it to the mechanic who said it was common for the aluminum master cylinder in a lot of Fords to bypass. seemed logical enough when she told me, and he put a new 1 in.. fast forward to a few days ago and it happened again. brakes are going to the floor, but only causing a somewhat reduced amount of braking power. Mechanic says it must have been a faulty M/C. but I'm skeptical of that because the brakes feel and perform the exact same way, and I would think 2 M/C's would fail in 2 diffrent ways, or at least feel diffrent thru the pedal.. I'm thinking more along the lines of air getting in the system, and causing the spongy pedal, but where could it be entering? could the ABS accumulator/ pump be causing any of this issue? the car has ABS and traction control

could be an abs problem. Some of those newer systems have been having problems allowing air into the systems, without leaking fluid I might add.
I am not at the shop computer so I cant search for TSB s or see what the systems characteristics are.
I would do a couple searches for taurus brake problem.See what pops up.
