Welding the spider gears together certainly would accomplish what you want, and it was common during the 50's. It will however make street driving a royal pain as every time you turn a corner one wheel will try to slow down and start skipping and hopping. If you are lucky you will not break an axle.

If you want endanger yourself and more importantly other people, get involved in a lengthy and costly law suit, lose your vehicle and gain a few points on your liscence. Run your car on the street with welded spider (rear end) gears. I've been there, IT ISN"T WORTH IT!!

The only way to make it like a posi is to change the carrier to a posi carrier. I don't know what year, etc. you have so that's all I can suggest.
