Posi question

Can you install a posi unti into a diff rearend? I never have explored pass tranny's and engines, so I know little except how to change the fluid on rearends.

In short I have an 87 cutlass with the factory 2.41 diff. rearend and I want to install a posi unit and 3.08 gears.

Oh yeah an dis there anyway to tell a posi unit apart from a diff unit at a junk yard?

yes, this was what I was referring to on my other post of yours of this natured question, your rear is a 7.5, used in F-body`s, firebird t/a and camaro Z28 from 1982 - 1987. the guts swap out. you can even reuse your axle`s. I have the codes if you would like them again, this is about the cheapest alternative. you can usually get the whole rear out of a junkyard for $150, if you do the guts swap, it`ll be much cheaper but it has to be done right, if you have it done it can get expensive. Posi rears came with a tag attached under the bolt on the differential cover, it will say "use GM limited slip diffential fluid only" which costs about $9 a bottle and will eliminate "chatter" or popping. it just mixes in with regular diff fluid. this is the swap I did for my car, I was able to trade a set of pistons and rods for the rear, I may have invested a total of $85 into the whole thing.
