Positive battery corrosion, Help ??

Hi,
have stock wiring set-up on my 65 Chevelle with newer
454 and alternator. My positive battery post and cable
terminal keeps corroding up. Not the white dusty stuff, but
more like a hard glaze between the post and terminal and after
I wire brush it to shiny lead color the corrosion turns is almost black.
I am stump. I have plenty oof ground...engine to body, huge ground strap
from head to frame.
Any help would be great, thanks in advance.

The seal between the positive battery post and the battery case might be bad. This allows a small amount of battery acid to wick up into the terminal to battery post connection.
Battery acid, two different metals in electrical contact, and electric flow pretty much guarantees corrosion will occur.

The hard Black glaze on the post sounds like it may be heat related from a bad connection. Check all your grounds & positive to starter again.

Perhaps the sulfuric acid gas ( not liquid ) is leaking out bad post seal that DanielC mentioned.

I used to get a hard black glaze on my battery posts before a retired military electronics technician told me not to use WD-40 on electrical connections.
