Poss LS-1 into an S-10

I am new to this site, as well as fairly new to the heavy line work on cars. I was talking to my car guy about what to do to an S-10 to make it go a little faster, and he joked about putting an LS-1 engine, and driveline into it. Is there any advice I need as far as whether it could be done? Also, if I put the engine in, would the emissions specs be the same for the engine, eventhough I it in a different vehicle?
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Search the boards and the knowledge base. There is a ton of useful info on V-8 swaps.
The swap can certainly be done, although it's not exactly easy. As far as the emissions, You would do best to check your local laws. There are usually very strict rules concerning engine swaps. I have it lucky where I live. My state doesn't do emissions checks, so I can pretty much use any engine in anything!
