Possible bad distributor?

ok so i have a 1973 Mustang with a 351C 2V motor in it with 70000 miles on it. It seems to me that the distributor is wearing out. I noticed it running a little differently then normal so i checked the timing and i noticed it jumped around(this is with the vaccum advance plugged). I know that these motors had a less than great nylon type cam gear that are prone to wear out but i dont think that is the case because this motor was rebuilt and my father opted for a steel gear this time around. I also notice when i start it up after it is warmed up fully that it will run very smoothly for a couple seconds then the rpms drop and it starts to miss or something that i can hear through the exhaust. Could this be the springs? or vaccum advance? or maybe just a worn out distributor all together? I do have the Pertronix electronic ignition conversion if that helps at all. any suggestions or insight will be greatly appreciated. Thanks
