possible engine mods

Hey, I have a 73 Dodge half ton truck, came with a 360, needs replacement. I have multiple available engine choices. These include 383s, 400s, 440, 392 HEMI w/ 871 blower, 360s, and 318s. This is my first vehicle of my own, so im thinking a 360 w/ 4 barrel for decent mileage, What choice should I take, and what mods to the engine... And I already have access to all of the above.

Access to all of those engines, sweet! I suppose you need to make up your mind if your looking for an ecomony ride since you mentioned gas mileage, all out performance, or somewhere in the middle. The 440 just sounds sweet to me.

If you go 383 or 440, you will be changing transmission too, as its a different bolt pattern. I like the 360s..........decent power and economy.

..And here I was going to say 318 for the same reason. Adding reliability as well....

In a while, Chet.

Yeah, and my truck already has an 8 3/4" rear end, so it can basically handle any of my options. But sadly, its not a posi unit or anything special.
