Possible Source of Big, Good, but CHEAP Compressors

I got a used, industrial-strength compressor for $300 the other day. Quincy model 325 w/ intercooler and pressure lubrication atop an 80-gallon tank powered w/ a 5HP (continuous, not peak) electric motor. This was installed in a Mobil gas station for about 30 years. As you may imagine, a machine this size will run any air tool continuously.

For safety's sake, I water-tested the tank and safety valve at its rated pressure of 200 PSI, and I only run it at 150.

The interesting thing was that the compressor wasn't being replaced due to being worn out, in fact the motor was only a couple of years old. It seems that Exxon has ordered all compressors over a certain age in Mobil stations to be replaced. So get down to your local Mobil gas station and see what you can come up with.

Bill

I'm suprised that they would sell them due to liabilities in todays sue happy word.

Where I work, they toss out 2-3 year old perfectly good computers by the pallet full. I've tried to get one for home but they won't sell or give them away because they are worried about how they will be disposed of in the end. Now they go to a certified recycler.

You are correct.I work for a large company known for their brown trucks. In the past we would donate computers to most any non-profit charity. New environmental laws would make my company liable for future disposal. Translation, charity= No money, big company= Large Cash settlement. Lawyers write the laws! LOL!!
