If you intentionally want to remove powder, it is a real b*t*h to remove. Requres a special solvent or a lot of patience. That said, thinners and other paint solvents will damage a powder coat surface.

Yea, it's not indestructable. Regular paint stripper will remove it. As been said, other solvents can damage it.

If the powder coating on your intake manifold is a silver "chrome-look" finish, then unless it is clear coated, the finish will likely be inherently lower in solvent resistance than other powder coatings, at least as far as color retention is concerned. This is because in order to achieve the bright look to mimic chrome, leafing aluminum pigments are probably used, which largely lay on top of the surface of the powder finish. This layer of leafing aluminum can be much more sensitive to solvent attack or attack by caustic cleaners than are other powder coatings that are not pigmented with leafing aluminums.

Unfortunately, this type of finish also suffers from the drawback that when they are clear coated, much of that desired bright appearance is also lost. It becomes almost a catch-22 situation. One takes their choice between a less appealing appearance if clear coated, versus reduced long-term resistance to discoloration by solvents or cleaners if left without a clear coat.
