Cool powder coating

does anyone do their own powder coating??
or is it just as easy to send some place to have done.

Can you explain the process,and how expesive is it.

If you have small pieces you can get a kit from Eastwoods and do your own. Just make sure you have an old oven to bake the parts in. I don't think Momma would want you putting it into her oven. Anything that has any larger size to it you will not be able to do it at home. When a part is powder coated it has to be baked at approx. 350 deg. and the do-it-yourselfer it not set up to do that. Shop around. There are businesses starting up everyday that does powder coating and usually you get a price break on quantities.

Every powder you buy will have a tech data sheet that will tell the temperature and the duration of the bake. Make sure you do a very good cleaning first and if using an "old" oven. Check the temp inside with a gauge so you don't overbake or underbake it. I had an old oven that was 100 degrees off from what the dial read.
