power on a 2.3l?

Hello again everyone. I know this is a bit off topic with eveyone talkin about there 350's and 454's but here we go. You might have seen My other post on here asking about a pontiac 400 for a '81 trans am but I also have a 95' achieva s. My nonno left it to me when he passed as he always promised so it means alot. As much as I love it Its a tad GUTLESS! LOL. But yea, It is going to be my car for every other season but summer (got the T/A got that ) so yea. as some of you may know it has the 2.3l with balance shafts . And as obvious as a a turbo may seem it wont live with the balance shafts (am I wrong?). Also, I REALLY REALLY hate this ECU stuff so if anyone can make it any less painful that would be great. I was thinking of doing this.....

I have alot of time on my hands and a mig welder at my disposal so as stupid as it sounds I was going to attemp to make headers. Mabye a bad idea but yea. I was also going to make a custom intake. My main idea was to find another 2.3l and snatch up the head. Then I would port, mill, and add bigger valves. Also, I was thinking of putting the can from the 2.3l H/O in and see where all this gets me. My next best idea witch I dont want to do with all the pain of playing with electronics would be to swap a 2.4 in and put the 2.3l head with all the work I already mentioned done to it. Another idea would be to find a older 2.3l W/O the balance shafts turbo it with stock guts and only run 5 pounds. My only problem is tuning...

This whole thing is just somthing I have being toying with but putting it off because of the pain of tuning. My favourite Idea is the stock 2.3 thats in there with the work on the heads done to it. The only reason I like it is because I am under the impresion I can get away with a hand tuner. so yea, if someone could help me out that would be great. I am only looking for 300 hp ish no neck breaking land speed setting goals here.

Get the 180Hp version of the 2.3L Quad four from the junkyard and swap it in, take the five speed trans and clutch pedal assy and computer + harness too...easy 60Hp upgrade in a weekend.

Forget all the other stuff...not worth it.

Well if I am going throgh all that trouble why dont I just upgrade to a bigger engine? I have read that the buick 3.8 will bolt to the stock tranny already in the Achievia. I figure if I grab up a 3.8l supercharged and Its just a matter of ECU and wiering. I think I will be able to fit it in there somehow, even if it doesnt clear the hood. everything can be fixed. What do you think?

A LOT of work for a Achieva... If you're going to go through all that trouble you should atleast go through the 3.8L.

If it was me I'd keep it stock and change the oil every 3,000 miles.
