To Power Glide, Or not to Power Glide

I have a SB 327 I'm trying to beef up and it still has the original 2 speed Power glide Transmission.

Any suggestions on what type of Transmission to upgrade to without breaking the bank? maybe a 350?

Looking to build a mean street machine, possibly some drag racing on the weekend, nothing serious, just for fun.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Dito
Up here their either used to keep a classic in show condition or usually rebuilt for the 1/4, but never have I seen one connected to muscle for the street. Given that a 400 would be overkill and rob power from the mouse I'd go th350.

Ditto on the TH350. Those things are all over the place, and can be had for cheap. Don't trash the PowerGlide though. Keep it on the side.
