Power Inverter System Gone Bad, What Happened???
I have a power inverter system hooked up in my 2000 Dodge Dakota. It is being used to run 2 250 Watt Metal Hallide Lights. The Aims 1500 Watt Pure Sine Wave Inverter I received started smoking on me with the first inverter (after 20 minutes of use). After returning and getting a new one in the mail, the second fried also, only after around 2 hrs of use, and only when I hit the off switch. Aims said they looked into the first one and it wasn't my fault. But AGAIN???
Here's how I have it hooked up: 3 terminal battery isolator 200Amp 2 AWG welding cable to car battery from isolator 2 AWG welding cable to alternator from isolator 2 AWG battery cable from Deep Cycle Battery to isolator 2 AWG battery cable from Deep Cycle Battery to ground 4 AWG welding cable from Inverter to ground 4 AWG welding cable from Deep Cycle Battery to Positive terminal at Inverter 4 AWG welding cable from Deep Cycle Battery to Negative terminal at Inverter 2- 15ft 14 gage extension cords from Inverter to Trucks Bumper 2- 25ft 12 gage extension cords from Bumper to Hallide Lights The truck has gone nearly 2000 miles with the isolator setup without any battery related issues. Both batteries charge great. I only use 1/3 of the juice from the inverter when hooked up. So Did I screw something up or are these inverters straight garbage????? |
