Question power steering adjustment

i have a 65 chevy impala.with a 327 eng.i think its the power steering control value .its on the drivers side inside the eng compartment.on the top of it there is a nut and a alien screw.u have to losing the nut to turn the alien screw.does anyone know how these should be adjusted and what it does?? i was trying to make my steering tight i got a aligment but its wondering alot.sorry about my spelling.thank you if u responed.

this adjusting screw you are describing sounds like the steering box adjuster.tighten screw till you feel slight resestance, and tighten lock nut. if it still wonders, the box is probably worn out. good luck!

STOP> don't adjust anything without having the shop manual to guide you!
Steering box adjustment is not so simple as some would make it seem. It is a simple procedure that requires following the procedure step by step. Adjustment without the procedure can actually destroy your steering box.
A shop manual for your car probably costs less than $50 and will save you many $$$ and time in screwing around. Knowledge is really cheap!
