Question power steering fluid

I recently had a leak in a power steering hose which I had replaced by a local garage,

when I ordered the hose I asked the suppliers to send appropriate power steering fluid for my car (1978 Camaro Z28) and the bottle says that it meets or exceeds all GM, Chrysler etc. specs.

However, the garage that installed the hose (while they were doing a load of other work for me too), say that they always use a thicker red fluid in power steering because it's "better", who should I trust?!

The supplier are a UK specialist in american cars and parts, the garage is a UK garage that mainly deal in European / Jap cars (and GM and Fords that we get over here), so I don't know if I trust them to know what's best on my classic american.

I always use ATF in my power steering. No problems.
