Power steering for my 39' Rat Rod truck...

I have a 1939 Dodge Rat Rod that has the factory 39' Dodge manual side steering box, etc. and would like to convert it to power steering.

It has the basic SBC motor and I also have pictures of the steering and chassis if anybody needs to see what I am working with.

Is there a vehicle out there I could possibly find in a salvage yard that would work for my application that anybody knows of???

Thanks,
Clay (sore arms)

Maybe a Toyota pickup box? That's what I'll be using on my '50 F1. Lots of info on that switch. Check to see if it's a similar setup. Good luck!

Power steering question...

I have a manual steering box out of my old 1949 Chevy pickup that looks the same but a little beefier and has no slop or free play. I wonder if I puchased a power steering conversion for a 1949 Chevy would it work? The buy a Borgeson said he couldn't help me as I have side steering and most cars with power are cross steering.
If nothing else do you think if I install the new manual steering box out of my 49 Chevy pickup it would be any easier???
I would like to think there is a car out there in a salvage yard that I could buy the power steering parts off of and it would adapt to my Rat Rod but nobody has been able to tell me so or not so far.

Thanks for any suggestions on this...

Clay

The Toyota 4X4 pick up power steering (I think 79-85 but check) is side steering. You need the pickup with solid front axle. It adapts well to Ford pickups but I don't see why it wouldn't work on your car. Take a look at this site.

Power steering...

Thanks for the info on the Toyota!

I do think that will work from reading the thread that you posted. So now all I have to do is find the 79 to 84 steering box and column from a Toyota! So if anybody has something I could use I'm interested in purchasing.

Thanks again.

I got mine from a local wrecking yard. About $125 with the pump, and column linkage. Haven't done it yet but it looks like a fairly easy link up to other columns.
