Power steering question

hi i was wondering if i could run a power steering box without using the pump, it would only be for a few days because i bought the box in town and am waiting for the pump to come in the mail. would it work or could it damage it, it is going in a 64 chevelle. thanks

In my young and stupid days I did this with a 1968 Olds 442 for a couple of years. Other than the outrageously high steering effort, you won't hurt the box. It's a good idea to put some PS fluid in the box then loop a hose between the two ports so it doesn't spurt out.

I would also keep an eye on the rag joint, your car may or may not have a metal insert. If it tears apart you lose everything.

I take it you will not be parallel parking, might want to change the steering wheel with a Mac truck. LOL
