power steering test

I have a jeepster project that is currently not running. I believe I have finished all the steering components. It has a GM pump & Model 700 box. Does anyone know if the pump can be powered by an electric drill to prime the system and do a test?

No. You would need more oomph. Try a 1/4 horse electric motor or a 1/3 horse job. You could use a pulley about 2inches in diameter on the motor and it would still turn the pump about 550 rpm. as the pump pulley is about 6 inches diameter. That is a 3 to 1 ratio. Most motors turn at 1750 rpm so ... there you are. It should reveal how well the system will work at Idle ... when it is most needed... like when parallel parking. Latech
