I noticed there are frozen posts like this for the th400, th350, 700r4

Is there any way someone can post one of these on a power glide? We have two extras in the garage, they both slip pretty bad and we thought it would be fun to try and rebuilt them ourselves. We are not depending on the rebuilds because our el camino that uses a power glide has a good one in it, so I am sure it would be trial by error, but would be a good learning experience!

The best thing to do, would be to get a copy of Carl Munroes book, "Powerglide Transmission Handbook", by HP Books. You can find them on E-Bay for as cheap as $13.00. Covers just about everything, and has tons of photos.

I have rebuilt a couple of them and they are pretty simple jobs. Get any good rebuild manual and using that, with a video for a 350 or such rebuild for a novice for general tranny etiquette, and you can go thru one like an expert. Two things you MUST do is replace the input shaft and internal hub with hi-strength parts. The stock parts are really weak to say the least. Those parts are surprisingly cheap. Jegs, Summit, etc., all carry that stuff. Get a shift improvement kit, quality band and clutches and you should be good to go. Oh and if it doesn't use 5 clutches you can get a new piston or machine the old piston to accept the max. Some came with no fluid cooling but they can be converted to external cooling with a couple of pump mods. The cases have the ports, just weren't used on light weight cars. Those tranys have tell tale 3" holes bored in the bellhousing for cooling air.

Don't know if you read the Summit catalog much but you can built a brand new PG tranny using zero stock parts from a catalog! Cost an arm and a leg but can handle a couple thousand HP in your grocery getter.
