Can anybody tell me the length of the rod between the box and the reaction arm, it has a ball joint at each end.

Cool

I am unsure of the proper length, but

sounds like you will have to aquire some proper ends. then cut a rod to fit.

If I lived in the USA no problem I would get the proper part, but living in th UK not many people use powerglides. The original must have come off after I refitted the box, because I am altering the exhaust is the reason that I noticed that it had gone . I intend making the part as a temperory measure, whist I look for the part.Do I need to worry about it or can it be run without a kick down?

The correct length rod is variable. It can only be determined after installaion of the trans. The proper adjustment is to hold carb at wide open throttle, push trans arm to its stop and measure.
Do not run the trans for any extended period with out this rod. It functions as a throttle pressure valve and as kickdown.

I can vary the length of the rod by the carb. This rod(the missing part) had no adjusrtment on it at all.
Thanks for all your help, looks like I will be jacking the car up and getting some body to hold one end of a tape measure whilst I read the other end.Unless somebody can come up with a size?
