I have a 1966 impala that I'm putting in a SBC 406, with a turbo 350. After removing the original 283 with the Powerglide, I'm having trouble getting the original Powerglide transmission crossmember to fit. Or maybe I should be asking the question, should it fit? Anyone know of aftermarket tranny crossmember that would fit? Also, are there any Driveshaft mods to expect?

I believe the TH350 is a direct bolt in check this article out.

But if it is not working for you then obviously you need to change something. You could fabricate your own pretty easily.

I went from a Powerglide to a TH 200-4R and all I had to do was weld some new tabs to the frame for the original X-member to bolt to.

The dimension from the bellhousing face to the trans mount bolt holes is 20 9/16" for the Powerglide and 20 3/8" for the TH350. Slotting the holes slightly should help. There are three different tailhousing lengths for the TH350. The one you have will determine whether or not your current driveshaft fits. The shortest of the three TH350 tailhousings is exactly the same length as the Powerglide.

With a good jack and some persuasion from the "olde hammer" the cross member slid up over the perch on the frame rail. Can we say " Happy " :0) Problem solved. Now with this 406 SBC and a TH350 pulling this Big hunk of Metal, I should have some fun smokin' tires. Wish me luck!!
