so i have a 600+HP SBC thats going into a full weight 81 FireBird use is for street class maybe mod drag racing i currently have a TH350 but dont know if it will hold, what exactly is a powerglide trans. which is better ?

If you are going to run it on the street, in my opinion the three speed trans would be a better choice.

Drag race only, it's a toss up. The Powerglide can be modified to handle 600HP easily. Either must be matched to a properly sized and stall converter.

The powerglide is a bit lighter than a THM 350.

ok this is deff not going to see the street, the way this engine is build has been tailored towards the 1/4 mi putting a converter with a flash of 5500RPM behind it not trans brake as of yet the TH350 can take the 600HP if im correct or would a TH400 be the better way to go

If you are under 2700 lbs or so with you in it. Then a PG would work fine other than that a TH350 or a TH400 would be the ticket.

Either a TH350 or TH400 would do. Take less PF parts for a 400. But it is your choice. Takes more HP to run a TH400 but not much more.

Excellent thanks deff over 2500lbs so ill start inquiring into a custom build TH 350 specifically for what im looking to do thanks much

i would have to agree a 350 will hold up if you have it build rite i know acouple drag racers and they both had powerglides in and made two passes on one and the other made 8 pesses before it blew apart going 80 mph. i would say a 350 you get more gearing for off the line for a jump on the other car.

i have to agree but only because iv never dabbled in the world of powerglides, most racers i know that use em love em but i get squeamish when i start preparing to spend money i wanna do it right once
