Powerglide/TH400 Swap

I have a 67 malibu convertible with a powerglide trans. I would like to swap in a TH400. What will be needed to complete this swap? Can I use the same drive shaft by just swapping the yokes? thanks, charlie

The 400 is longer, so tge shaft will have to be cut. Why not go with a turbo350?...It's a bolt-in, and it doesn't rob as much power from your engine.

The glide and the 350 have the same rear mount distance - 22 1/4 inches. The 400 mount is about 5 3/4 inches further back, so you would have to move the crossmember accordingly. The 350 case measures 5 5/16 inches longer than the glide. The glide tailshafts measured 9 or 12 inches, while the 350 tailshafts were either 6, 9, or 12 inches long. The only way the driveshaft would not have to be cut and balanced is if your glide tailshaft currently measures 12 inches and you get a 350 with a 6 inch tailshaft. Even then, you still need to carefully check the yoke depth on the driveshaft to insure a good fit. It will ride about 5/16 inch further out.

crossmember mounts

Does your convertible have a boxed frame? On my old Chevelle all I had to do was slide the crossmember back in the frame and drill new holes but on my Skylark convertible with a boxed frame I had to cut the mounting brackets off and move them back and re-weld for the th-400. You might want to check this out.
