powerglide trans with no reverse

I have put a brand new powerglide transmission behind a 350 small block Chevy. I just got the engine running and found that reverse doesn't work. It will go forward, but I think only one gear is working. Anyone know what could possibly be wrong with my new powerglide?

Clogged valve body-linkage.

Thanks for the info. I have the shifter cable unhooked, and shift it by hand and there is no change. Is there a way to fix a clogged valve body with out removing the transmission?

I doubt you have a clogged valve body in a 'new' powerglide.

Please describe where the glide came from , who rebuilt it, is this a stock rebuild, do you know what year the trans is ?

Powerglide with no reverse

I ordered the powerglide from Abruzzi Transmissions in Ohio. I will talk to them tomorrow. It is a shorty and has a trans brake. It is their low dollar powerglide. I think I paid $1495.

no reverse

most brake glides have to have the solenoid engaged for reverse in reverse position its a safety thing built into the valve body(just in case your shifter goes past neutrel) not fun hitting reverse at 140mph happened to a friend ray cook hees lucky he walked away

yes, call the builder.

If you have a budget bracket race glide , these often do not require the trans brake engaged for reverse. Put the shifter in "R" and the trans should back up

If the glide has a fluid release or a 'pro tree' style trans brake, then the t-brake button needs to be pushed in "N" or "R" for reverse to function.

powerglide with no reverse

Thanks--To All-- for all the information. In a couple of hours I will call the builder. I just hope I don't have to take it out and have something fixed. It is in a v8 trike I have built from a Boss Hoss frame and it is not easy to get the thing out. Thanks again.
