Any suggestions for a street full steel 55 chevy with sbc355, ford 9" with a 4:56 gear. Got a super t10 now, but considering an automatic change. What would be a better street choice turbo 400 or powerglide? THANKS DY

Hey Slider, Yea this is NOT a daily driver. Its going to be basically a weekend fun car. Iv had many opinions about tranys, iv got a super t-10 now. But as you well know, an automatic now days will make any stick-shift driver look bad. Before doing any mods, just kinda thinking of going with an automatic. Im from the old school, back when 4 speeds where the ONLY way to go. THANKS for you imput. I just dont know much about the pro and cons about differnt automatics and converters. DY

The down side is that a 400 Turbo takes a few more HP to turn than a PowerGlide. You will lose a few HP at the output shaft comparared to a PG. The better low gear and FUN FACTOR of the 400 makes the few HP loss not a concern in my book. I have a Turbo 400 in my black 32 Roadster and it is great. If your $$$ will stand it, a 700R should be considered. First gear is 3.06 with 3 more gears. 4th gear is about 30 % overdrive and will cut the 4.56 down to around 3.25 (I don't have my calulater handy). More $$$ but more FUN. I am building a 40 Ford coupe with a 350 SBC and I am using a 700R in it.

while on this topic, because I'm considering the 700r trans. I have a 383 stroker engine and wanted to go put a 700r to replace my th350 trans, but the guy who's helping me said that my trans would out weigh my engine and hold the car down, so basically he said to leave the th350. Anyone have any idea on this?
