Powerglide Won't Shift

I have 66 c10 with a powerglide. Cruising at 50mph for about 10 miles, it will downshift to first. So I slow to 30mph, and it stays in first for about a mile. Then I loose everything, no drive, no reverse, nothing. I let it sit for ten minutes, then its fine again, for about 5 miles, then it repeats. I also noticed that when I shut the truck off and try to restart, it acts like a weak battery or timing being off. I've checked fluid(clean and full), timing, disconnected detent, engine temp is normal. This tranny was supposed to have been rebuilt, but i'm not 100% sure. Any help would be appreciated.

sounds like a filter clogging up.

There was an aftermarket dacron style filter for the glides. these filters can clog up , stop the car.

As the fluid drains back out the tranny through the filter while the egine is off, Start the engine & the car will move again for a mile or 3 , then drop out of gear again....
