Powersteering pump problems.

Maybe not the right place for this thread but I will try my luck anyway. I have a powersteering setup consisting of a toyota hiace rack and a very compact mitsubishi pump. For the last couple of years it has worked beautifully, but now all of a sudden it is playing up. My steering feels like it is locking up from time to time and it only seems to be when I apply any lock just off the straight position. It is very heavy for a moment then all of a sudden will free up. It also seems to be worse turning right than it is turning left. The first thing I did was check fluid levels of course and there appears to be plenty of fluid. Any ideas?

Mostly when this happens it`s time for a rack replacement.

Rack is second hand but has had all new seals fitted. The problem started suddenly, not gradually. Is that normal for a worn rack?

Moving this to the suspension/steering forum, better exposure.

Well guys i topped up the fluid level even tho it appeared to have plenty in it and took car for a drive, no change. I took car to a friends and took a friend of his for a drive. Gave the car a bit of a good thrashing and steering fixed itself. Fantastic! Must've had an air lock or something in the system. Gota love problems that fix themselves

Buga, problem came back. Time to start pulling things apart I guess. My guess is a bit of crap stuck in valve body somewhere, only hope it's that simple!
