PPG clear 2042 vs 2021

I have a small shop at my house and do basic dent repair and refinishing (not my real job). Anyway, I had been using 2042 for the last few years but decided to try 2021. 2021 is $40 cheaper when buying by the quart so I would really like it to work for me, but I can't seem to get the 2021 to flow out like the 2042.

After I got comfortable with 2042 I was able to get away from cutting and buffing which obviously saves a bunch of time. The last four jobs I used 2021 and just can't get as good of results. It seems like the fine line between orange peel vs. runs is much harder to find with the 2021. A few nights ago I sprayed the 2021 but didn't reduce it as much. Normally with 2042 I would go 4:1:1 clear/hard/reduce, but I tried something closer to 4:1: 1/2. It was a little better but not like I shoot 2042.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Have never sprayed the 2042, but have shot tons of the 2021. I always mix it the 4/1/1 and it seems to flow pretty good for me. The only thing I can say is over reduce it a bit, mabbey 5 to 10% and move a little faster with the gun. I cut and buff everything anyway, but it definatly flows a little better in the colder months, as with the humid weather it kicks a lot faster, even with the 895 reducer. Just makes it a bit tougher to get everything to flow out in the hot weather. The last one I just sprayed was an overall, assembled on a rotissurie, and had to shoot the engine compartment and the full front undercarrige all at the same time. It was probably 95-100 in the booth, at least it felt that hot anyway, and had a tough time trying to get wet edges every where. At the end of the last coat of clear, just went back in with the gun full of reducer and melted in any dry spray I could see.
