i need help with painting a 69 camaro guys,i sandblasted this car and then layed on ppg epoxy, did my body work and then sprayed ppg k36 surfacer, next came color or so i thought!! i picked a ppg toreador red metallic the code is FL 5096,but when i got home the can says NISSAN,SC5096,is it the same?? the store says it is,so i sprayed a quart, and guess what, something just wasnt rihgt about that color,so i called around to another ppg store, and he says the mistake was not using the ppg recomended tinted sealer,no one told me about that!!so now im sanding this off,how much should i sand ?? i already hit bare metal in small areas, please help me!!
I would sand the painted areas well with 400, then shoot another coat of K36 over the areas you painted. Wet sand that with 400 to 600 then shoot the proper color.
PS I would have a bone to pick with your PPG jobber.
Are you shooting a B/C or single stage?? If it's a B/C, then you only need to lightly sand it with 1200 grit wet, clean, tack and go on. If it's S/S, allow it to sit overnight, rough it with a scotch brite pad, clean, tack and re-coat.
