Post PREHISTORIC OVERDRIVE

I have purchased a 64 Chevy Bel-Air, the car was originally a 283, with three speed trans. My uncle told me to check to see if it had been equipped with overdrive. There is a cable under the dash {not a choke cable} on the right side of the steering wheel. Is this the cable for the overdrive?
If the car was originally equipped with overdrive, should the original ratio be a 4.11? This car no longer has the original engine and transmission.

chevy wasn't real big on the overdrive stuff in the sixties your uncle is thinking of 50's era fords anyway if it were an overdrive it would clearly labled and also have an electric circuit to it.

There were alot of chevrolets with overdrive trannys, especially in the 50s, I have a junk 57 with a six cylinder that had overdrive in it. It's not the vent handle, the vent handle is further over. This is a very large, factory chrome bracket with a cable that goes through the fire wall. It's not a choke cable, and it's not a vent cable.

I just looked on ebay for this thing, and I found a picture of an overdrive cable for a 60 Impala, it's identical to the one in my 64.
