Hello Robert,

A friend of mine who had made some energy-related suggestions
to President Obama just received a very thoughtful and
well-written note in response, talking up the "all-of-the-above"
strategy. I respond:

That's great. From here, I'd like to see some real numbers
and commitments to bringing them about. In particular, I
want to see us:

- Immediately remove the subsidies to the oil and coal companies.

- Get entirely out of the coal business over the next 35 - 40
years, with legislation that would force the generators and
consumers of energy to pay for its comprehensive costs,
including remediating damage to our lungs and ecosystems;
encourage the rest of the world to do the same.

- Put people back to work in energy efficiency (insulation,
smart-grid, LED lighting, higher efficiency HVAC, etc.) and
in rebuilding our ancient grid.

Geez spacy, the entire world will be adopting these principals. Why shouldn't the country most known for innovation be at the forefront? California leads the rest of the US, and the US leads the rest of the world. Do you really think we can compete on a world wide basis in unskilled labor?

I'm on the eastern side of the major faults, so my home might be future oceanfront property. Since a 1500 sq ft Malibu beach house goes for $5 mil, not a bad deal.

California leading the way? How many BILLIONS is your (my previous) state in the red? I suppose that when California comes to the fed looking to get bailed out for all of its failed socialist programs that never produce, you will be first in line with your hand out. One thing I have to say about you deckofficer, you are a proud MARXIST! Funny how you talk down to all of the rich republicans, but you shelter your money over seas.

That single gold bar isn't sheltered. If I purchase my next boat out of the country, register it under a flag of convenience, then the capitol gains weren't used in the US. If I sell the bar and bring the funds ashore, then I will be paying those CG taxes.

All my money (what there is of it) is here in the US, but with the returns of 1% on savings interest, not much will be going to taxes.
