Pressure regulator valve modifications

Will ask this question again. Never got a good answer as to why all these kits to improve these 200 4r trannys, tell you to grind down the lands down. I called two of the makers today(teck support) as to why, but they realy didn't want to say more than it helped the valve body and that it had to be done. Well to the average guy, that would be good enough. I would like to know for sure what it does. I'm sure there is someone out there that is alot smarter than me on this. I've been told several different things it does, but i like the answers i'll get here better i'm sure. Maybe this has been discussed before, but can't find it.

increases oil flow thru converter while in lock up mode. Follow the oil passages in the pump.

GM did this for years on various models , although , GM simply notched the land on 2 sides of land with flat spots.

Please dont expect most tech support monkeys to have proper answers on all items. Sounds like you received generic back up answer #12 to your question. LOL
Dont worry how old you are... it is the mileage on your body that adds up.

I noticed on one of my spare valves has flat spots. They are small and hard to notice unless you look for them. The second one doesn't have them at all. The one that has them came out of a tranny for a 86 monte with (not ss) ho 305. Studied the passages again and think i finally get it. I keep telling myself its not that hard and then i learn something new. Last year i lost lockup comming back from a car show and was worried about the tranny temp. I kept an eye on it and it never got above 180. I thought maybe those lands being removed helped. Maybe not, it was a cool 60 degree day. Now i'm going to get an old pump out and take it apart and study it again. THANKS CROSLEY
