Price on running 454
I know we all hate these questions, but.....
Is $1800 a fair price for a complete running 454 from an 88 1 ton pickup? I believe it has been converted to carb with an alumium intake I don't really know much about big blocks, never really paid much attention to them before now Thanks for your comments

I don't know what they go for..But I think that's a little high.That's at least ALOT more than I know that I'd pay.Anyway..I may be wrong.I believe that you can build one yourself from the crank up for that

I think that 500.00 is a good benchmark for a rebuildable core while 750.00 would be a decent price for a good running used engine. 1800.00 will get you a reman engine.

I bought one in the fall with alt, carb, water pump,starter, everything still attached and ready to run for $600. $1800 is real high unless its a rebuild.even then , mine runs fine. mike

Thanks for the replies folks.
Where are these reman. 454's coming from? A reman. long block from Scoggin Dickey is around 2 grand, but you still need intake, valve covers, timing cover/damper etc..... The reason I don't know what they go for here is that I NEVER see big blocks for sale here. Florida really kinda sucks for used auto parts.  I probably will not be getting this one...can't really justify the weight for the power it would make. Thanks again

Hey Reddwarf since we talked the other night I bought a complete, from a 454 SS truck with trans(had a throttle body fire) for $150.00. They are out there ,just keep checking the cheap pages and scrounging the backroads. BOB

SS Truck?
Is that oh so lovely 190hp 454 in those trucks? I'm not kidding. If I remember correctly those things were pushing tops 220 hp because of the smogger crap. As for long blocks I know one site on here sell's a 454 long block for 1400 plus 250 core charge. Hell in the paper here last week there was a guy selling a 60 over 454 built engine for 800 bucks. Holly system max heads intake and street avenger carb. he blew his 454 and got another one took his top end off and put it on his new one and then found a deal on a 502.
::Shrugs:: I'd pay 1800 for a 409 or a 383. But to me 1800 for a smogger engine that isnt' worth the time I taking to type this should go for about 150 bucks.....
