I just sucked it up and ordered the right tool from jegs.
Well, that and some auto meter gauges.

All I need now is some coolant and find TDC on #1 again.
so close to getting this all finished.

I have learned a lot doing this my self.

Yes, it sounds like you have!
Patience and the desire to do things right *the first time* are something that certainly I (and probably many other guys) have struggled with for many years.

"Haste makes waste"
I'm still making mistakes and learning from them ... but I'd rather take my time now, doing things as time and money permit.

I've made myself a little promise that my project won't hit the streets in rust and primer as I and so many others have.

The problem seems to be that you end up just driving them that way for forever.

And then there is the "You never get a second chance to make a first impression" scenario, which I learned in 1983 ... the first time that I refurbished this old truck. The truck was given to us by my wife's Grandfather, and I made sure to completely detail the engine compartment, replace all the chrome, and have it clean enought to eat off of before I took it back to show it to him. My intent was to show him his truck as he remembered it.

The best thing you could have done.
