primer job

Hello all. I'm in the military currently on leave and while home my dad and I pulled out his former and now my 47 Ford Coupe. It had been sitting in our garage for 13 yrs. I want to get this thing on the streets while I work on it. My questions are

1. What is a good easy primer to use that will stand up to washing and wet weather on occassion??

2. What is a good body filler to use besides bondo??

3. I would also like to know some suppliers for this car besides Bob Drake.

Thanks!!!

Evercoat Kitty Hair. Make sure the metal is really rough, use something like 36 grit sand paper, it will make sure the Kitty Hair gets a good bite to the metal and won't lift. It shouldn't need to be said, but make sure all of the rust is gone before using the filler, if it isn't, the rust will grow behind the patch and make it lift.

Another, non-fiberglass, option is All-Metal from USC, pretty good stuff, we use it to fill rust pits in thick sheet metal. As long as it has some form of backer, it should fill holes pretty well too.

Suppliers are all over, Sacremento Vintage Ford, Dennis Carpenter, Macs Antique Auto Parts, BUT.... If you need weather stripping / rubber goods.IMO Drake is the best. Made in the USA and fit right. 'Course I've only done a half dozen 46-48's so what do I know.

what about the primer??? If you have done 46-48's then you are the guy I need to talk to. I'm looking for ruuning boards and wider rear fenders. I have a 75 camaro front and rear end and I need to know what is the widest tire and wheel that I can put on back.

Use an epoxy primer. Filler primers will absorb moisture and may not stick to bare metal. Epoxy primers are used over metal surfaces and seal it until you are ready to paint. It will fade as primers do not have UV protection and will also have to be sanded before top coating if not painted within the recommended time frame.
