primer paint compatibility

Hello,
I have a question about primer paint compatibility. I am preparing to paint my car myself using duPont Nason single stage urethane. The car is mostly in primer/filler that I applied last fall to protect bare metal as well as start the bodywork. The primer thats on now is a Mar-Hyde laquer type 2k that has been sanded. I had planned on putting on a final primer coat using the Nason 2k primer before doing the paint job. Is this ok to do? Will the Nason react badly with the Mar-Hyde? The Mar-Hyde primer says its for urethane paint jobs. Any info would be much appreciated. I have done alot of bodywork on this car and would like to have a nice paint job that won't peel off in a year!
Thanks
J.K.

I have to assume you are mistaken on the "Lacquer type 2K" and that it is a urethane 2K being there is no such thing as a "lacquer type" 2K. You either have a 2K or a 1K, lacquer is a 1K.

There will be no "compatibility" issues either way, but the urethane would be a much better base than lacquer for your paint.

Is there a way you could post the part numbers or better descriptions of what you are using?

Brian

primer paint compatibility

Thanks MARTINSR for that info. When I posted this thread I was taking the Mar-Hyde desription from memory, and I was incorrect. The mar-hyde primer description is high speed- laquer type. The part number is 5412. I believe this may be an older type of primer because I did not see it on the Mar-Hyde website.
Would I be able to do a final primer coat with the Nason 2K primer over the coat of Mar-Hyde before I painted the car? Any more info on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
J.K.

Yes you can put the 2K over lacquer primer.
Most on here hate lacquer primer and will tell you that you should
sand it all off, and that would be better.
Lacquer primer shrinks for a long time because it dries instead of cures
like 2K products. It's the worst primer you can use.
But since it's been on your car so long you probably could get away with it.
But not if it were applied over any bare metal, if it was you probably have
rust there now. Lacquer primer will let water soak through and should
not be used over bare metal.
If it were me I'd probably sand most of it off.
Then epoxy primer, followed by 2K urethane if I wanted filling to
sand smooth.
But it's your choice.
