Primer/sealer question

Hi all,
I am using ppg NCP280 primer on my project. If I apply the primer but wait a week or two to sand it, and perhaps another couple weeks before adding a color top coat. Do I
need to add a sealer on top of the primer before my color coat?

Sealers still confuse me as whether or when they are necessary. Are they just a very reduced primer? Do they go on really thin and leave a nice smooth surface finish before color top coat? Since color is applied right after a sealer I would imagine that it must go down smooth to not require any sanding before the color. Is this correct how they work.
Thanks,
Skipper

It's a great barrier coat to prevent wrinkling but also sets up an even color for your basecoat. For instance, this tool found off the street is in our shop doing some crappy side job for a customer. It was discovered that the red paint on it was soft, which could have been due to bad hardener. So this tool paints the jambs silver and the red, since it's gummy, bled thru the silver metallic, which is semi transparent as all metallics are. So on one hand the tool was fighting coverage because it's not so easy to cover uneven colors with metallic, and on the other hand the paint bled thru just days after. Probably the worst prepping and paint I've ever seen. Anyhow, a sealer could have helped both situations.

I'll try to take some pics of these jambs today.

everytime. You crosslink it by allowing it to flash longer like when you base coat and go to your clear.

Sealer

As it says in my book, How To Paint Your Car, sealer acts (in simple terms) to seal all of the various primers and body fillers in, before the color coats. It also provides a uniform surface to apply color, so that you get uniform color.

Sealer should not be sanded, but it should be used between any bodywork/primer application and the aplication of color.

Tech69... thank you for the kind words. I don't try to impress anyone, I just try to make it simple enough to understand.
