pro comp 190 heads
Does anybody know about the 190 cc heads from pro comp. I have a set on my 355 with dome pistons now and a solid lift cam. I have read some good and some bad. they look good on paper and look good in person. Super chevy is going to use them on the cheap 383. What about some of your input?
From what I understand, there made in china but said to be made is aussie land down under. I`ve read nightmare reviews and good reviews, but I will say the bad ones outnumbered the good. I`ve also read quality control on these heads aren`t that good, but most products made in china there isn`t a quality control, or not much of one. Me personally, I don`t like the idea of china heads on my american block in my american vehicle but that`s just me. I understand many people did have issues with the pro top line heads, however we purchased a set after RHS bought them out and we`ve ran them with very good results, everything was as it was suppose to be. You can do a search and find out others reviews on these heads, if they work for you then flog`em good.
Did you run the engine yet???
Do you have the cnc'd version or the as cast version???
I have 2 sets in my shop right now and they are both for sale...I ran them across the flow bench and they were sick. I think out of the box they went like 190cfm @.500 lift...With out getting into a bunch of cylinder head tech they are just a real bad design to make power...
I have herd from some other shops that there might be some issues with loose guides and seats,,,But it's just a rumor right now and i have not been able to confirm it..
If you want a cheep set of aluminum heads just to run on a beater or pick-up truck they are ok... if you really want a fast engine there not worth the work..
The unfortunate reality is that if we eliminated everything from our lives that is made offshore we'd be running around naked and wouldn't have cars that were even remotely driveable. For that matter we wouldn't have these computers that suck up WAY too much of our time, which wouldn't be a bad thing.
Pro Comp heads, and parts in general. I've got a friend that runs a well respected shop locally, he says that all the Pro Comp stuff indeed needs to be checked over real carefully, and may not be the very best performance wise, but he sells alot of it and has had no return issues.
I'd put my money into a set of RHS or Motown 200cc heads from Speedway motors. These heads are treated with a multi angle valve job, Z 28 springs, guide plates and other goodies for $798 a pair......
Even sell a 176 cc runner head for the same price, not a bad deal.
