problem on back up

got a ranger for a deal .
told tranny going out .
it's a 5 speed over drive ranger .
i know brake questionnaire form so here goe's -----
drive truck ,no noises , no problems going forward .
backing up though , it starts locking up and jumping and lunching effect when your on and off the clutch after 30 feet.
if you apply clutch the thing stops rolling ,dead in it's tracks like you had pull parking brake .
but if you don't push in clutch and apply light gas it keeps backing up .
if tranny was bad it would make noises and grind ,but there's no noises at all.
goes 70 mph forward like it should ,but backing up

could the brake shoes be applying cause ????
shoes maybe backward ,long on front and short on back ????

anybody had this problem ?
only in reverse

Or your brake hold down spring broke and the shoes are binding.

Pull the back drums off and check.

WELL I CHECKED BRAKES AND THERE GOOD
pulled drive shaft from rear .
it's not real free on turning even with tires off .
you can spin one side and other side turns opposite but has a tight spot and i didn't see the yoke end turning at all , this with drive shaft out .
it has the ring gear with a small gear around it for ????
maybe anti locking brake crap , or clicker posi , i don't know .
waiting on grease to drain , to check ring and pinion.
