1966-gmc i replaced my rear end w/12 bolt 80 model 4/wd now it is higher off the ground than i like what can i do the frame is 4or 5 in off the hold down plate ( drop springs )will they be to close has any one ever had this problem hope some one can help

I'm assuming the 4x4 rear axle has the spring mounted on TOP ofthe axle tube, while the stock axle had the spring on the bottom of the tube. If this is the case, get spring perches from any hot rod shop and weld to the axle tubes so the spring can be put back under instead of on top. That will drop it back down to normal. 5-6" above the axle is okay, there should be a rubber snubber between the axle and frame in case it bottoms out, something that shouldn't happen unless you have a load or the thing is seriously lowered. you need to keep at least 4" between snubber and axle.
