i'm having issues with my 1992 dodge dakota 3.9
there are times when it doesn't want to start. then it starts with no problem. the engine also died on me as i was driving. after a few minutes, it cranked right up. the truck only has 130k miles.

A possibility...Crankshaft Position Sensors were of irratic quality in your vintage Mopar motor, check that first. Remove egr valve and tube that is now seized in. sensor will slide out without removing anything The distributor drive gear could be wearing out. (common problem with these motors). Remove the distributor cap and twist the rotor clockwise and counter-clockwise. The total tip travel should not exceed 5mm, which is just about 1/8". Even if it exceeds this, an adjustment/ indexing of the distributor will get it running right again if only for a short while. These are but a few problems that could be causing your problems. Please let us know what you find out incase others are having same problem. Good Luck.
