this project was or is a father son project, i have a 302 ford engine with trickflow heads, i installed procomp roller rockers, have about 600 miles on engine. small voo doo lunati hyd cam, the rocker arms are devloping hair line cracks under the roller axel in the aluminum, these where the better grade rockers, that are gold in color. pro comp brand. dont know if they are of asian desent or austrailian. i would like to know if anybody else is having the same problem. i contacted the seller twice. but that fell on deaf ears. might have to throw them thru his window, us old guys can do that stuff.
Pro Comp rockers do not have a very good reputation, your story is fairly common. Pro Comp has spome decent products, but the rocker arms are not one of them. Chinese parts, not well made.
Scorpion rockers are very good, made in America and guaranteed for life. Very nice stuff at a reasonable price. take a look at www.competitionproducts.com
I am not impressed with Pro Comp products, nor the ones peddling them. In my opinion, the suits that set up the production lines in China were big time marketing whizzes that made their products look good and in very professional looking packages. Ones put to work or attempt to put them to work, they fall short. I have a brand new Pro Comp high energy coil and electronic distributor that was represented by the peddler as what I needed for EFI. Not so fast: there is no way of identifying the number one cylinder to the computer so I have just a plain old electronic distributor with a mechanical advance. I bought this at the Spring Charlotte Motor Speedway last Spring as a show special and get the old shoulder shrug when trying to get the vendor to make it right.
Any body want a brand new in the box, look good in the shower, Pro Comp distributor cheap?
I Called Pro Comp About My Rocker Arms, After I Sent Them 2 Emails. They Said They Would Make Good On Them But I Have To Take A Picture Of The Cracks In Them. Im Old School Dont Know How To Do That, But Maybe My Son Will Know, And I Will Post What Happened. Those Trucks You Posted On The Net, I Used To Have One It Was My First Vechicle, If They Are 1940 Chevy Pickups. Im Sure You Dont Have The Stove Bolt 6 In Them.
I really hope people remember this thread when they're trying to convince the world that there's nothing wrong with saving some bucks buying cheap, knockoff Chinese crap. You folks gotta realize that you're not just paying for the part, you are also paying for the tech support to make the damn thing work.
The Folks Said They Would Make Good And Send Another Set. If 10 Out Of 16 Failed In 600 Miles, Would You Buy Another Set?. Its Like Buyin A Stick In Which To Beat Yourself With, I Ordered A Set Of Scorpions. Eric Nova 73 Recomended. I Know Ill Have Push Rod Issues Again. 302 Ford Trickflow Lunati Voo Doo These Rockers Required 7.200 Pushrods. Which I Thought A Bit Long But That Is The Way It Is. Ive Got 100 To 120 Tho Of Roll Mark On The Stem Top, Dead Center. These Rockers Looked Great! Then I Thought I Had Piston To Valve Issues. No Marks On The Pistons No Bent Valves. I Always Put The Heads On The Engine, No Gaskets No Bolts Roll The Engine About 4 Turns To See If The Valves Hit, It Was Clear. Then Add The Thick Felpro Hgasket So No Clay Involved. Use Solid Lifters When U Do This.
Good call George W....let us know how they work out because I have a set of Scorpion 1.5s on the way...should be here tomorrow. They're going in my Vortec heads with GM screw in studs and LT1/LT4 springs. I'm still building my 400sbc so undecided on the cam...well maybe a howards cam but not sure of the size of cam.
Update On Pro Comp Rocker Arms, I Sent All The Cracked Rocker Arms To Pro Comp At My Expense, They Sent Me An Email Back Saying They Want Them All, Maybe They Can Make A Good Set Out Of The Ones That Are Not Broken, But Anyway I Thought I Would Let You Know. I Will Send Them All Back.
Well After The Emails Today Seems That I Dont Have The Reciept, And They Have My Broken Rocker Arms, Now They Want Me To Pay To Get Them Back. Well Looks Like Im All Done, So You Guys Out There Beware Of Ol Pro Comp, They Are Glad To Take Your Money For Inferior Parts And Not Stand Behind Them, Ill Remember Buy American, The Scorpions Are Doing Fine, 302 Ford Trick Flow Lunati
