Matt, The flash you see is not UV and is not harmful but really a properly adjusted lens should not have a noticeable flash. The thing that is so hard to accept about these things is that your safety does NOT depend on an electronic device and the UV protection is there even if the lens fails. Certainly if you force your self to look at the bright light through a failed lens it would be very uncomfortable and may even do some harm if you did this for too long but it would have to be intentional and who in their right state of mind would do such a thing?
