That reminds me of something that my Grandad used to say. His exact words were:
"The saddest thing that a man can say is, I sure wish I had __ __ __ __ "

Sadly there needs to be some form of currency, it was gold at one time, maybe going back thousands of years it could have been onions, who knows. There are cultures that still recognize other things as valuable. Our very own inuit folks up North still trade in seal liver and whale blubber etc.

Now the LOVE of money IS the root of all evil, it is true greed is like the glue holding together so many problems in the world

If I sell 1.5M this year I must sell 1.7 the next in order to be doing my job properly, ya know the share holders are the almighty ones, I guess we all make our own beds,,,

Now where did I put that harpoon?

All money is nothing more or less than a trade item..you guys trade your work and products for money which you then trade for something that you need..and how much do you need anyway..??? In the native cultures a fellow is a good hunter then he has more to support his family and relatives. If he is successful he cannot eat all he gets anyway..

The old time mule riding doctor sometimes went home with live chickens draped over the saddle and was happy to have something to eat the next day. WOW, those days are long gone, eh "sawbones"???

Honestly, I love what that video says. I went to work full time in the autobody industry one week out of high school because I LOVED doing it. My friend who recently passed away went into law enforcement right out of school. He said to me just a few weeks before he died when another friend of ours who also became a cop and recently retired at 50 years old came up in the conversation. When I mentioned how I should have done that too and I could retire now. He said, "Brian, you have spent 35 years doing something you love. You have made show cars and had fun, you have traveled as a paint rep, you owned your own shop, all those things you look back with a sparkle in your eye, you enjoyed it, as a cop your memories would be cleaning up vomit from the back of your patrol car and seeing women with black eyes from their husbands beating her, which would you rather have as memories?"

I have never gotten rich, but damn it I have enjoyed what I have done for a living. And I don't mind doing it longer than my retired friend, sure if I was cleaning up vomit I would want to retire, but I don't have any plans on retiring, I love what I do.

Brian

Brian, that was a very Cool comment but the coolest part is that you KNOW that you are BLESSED ! Some folks never realize how fortunate they are and are always reaching for something else and that is very sad.

There's a lot to be said for the barter system. It has worked very well for me in the past and I suspect it'll continue to come up every so often.

+1. I've been steadily moving in the bartering direction, thanks to Craigslist, friends without jobs, and my fantastic hoarding skills.
