Hi all, new to this forum. My name is Ron and I live in west/central PA.
I posted in a different thread about achieving 500 hp out of a 350. I really wasn't thinking about "hijacking" that thread and so apologize.
I've been reading a bit about trying different combos on many of the threads on here, but... when the discussion of cc's, flow rate, compression vs pump gas, roller cams, rv cams, stroked, pbbbbbbtttt!!! there went my mind...
Anyhoo... here is what I have, and what I wanted to achieve.
I have a 95 K1500 that we bought 6 years ago. With 235,000 miles on it and showing it's age, I was confronted with two options: 1) Fix up the truck 2) Buy another.
With the budget I had, I came to the conclusion that buying another truck would fetch me the same predicament in another 5-10 years, so I decided to make this my project / baby for life.
I had a family member do the majority of the work. I felt confident in him due to the fact he has his own business / garage and always tinkered with old muscle cars. He had the block magnafluxed, bored 30 over, installed an RV cam, forged pistons, heads (stock for the truck) were shaved slightly due to very slight variance in straightness, valves ground, crank underground (???) and Hedman headers installed. There are dual 2-1/2" lines run thru two high-flow cats from Summit and into a dual inlet / dual outlet muffler, then duals exiting the rear. I also had him replace the auto transmission with a manual. But (and I'm still kicking myself for this...) since I didn't specify 5 speed, I got the 4 speed from a 3/4 ton. ain:
Now... what I wanted to achieve.
When I started this, I wanted approx 500 hp. I wanted to boost the compression, change the cam and add a supercharger. I was shooting for 325 hp prior to the supercharger as I didn't have the budget to go all the way. My goal is still the same, but as I'm reading I see that there are many options to go with. This truck will be driven to work and such when weather is bad or I'm down a vehicle. I'll also use it to tow a large camper. What I need is advice from you all on how to go from here, given what all is done to the motor so far. I still plan on pulling the 4 speed and getting the 5 speed I wanted.
Oh, and BTW... I've seen many posts criticizing first time builders or less knowledgeable people for wanting 500 hp. Please spare me. I'm trying to attain it. Whether I achieve it or not is another story, just as long as I'm happy with the results. It's just like having an AK-47 or something along those lines... do you need it? No, but it sure is fun to have...
Thank you all. I'm learning... please bear with me.
