proper piston ring gap

I'm putting the pistons in my 406 sbc today! I've checked the ring gap and it come out at .026. The pistons are TRW forged L2311. Does this seem like an excessive amount of gap. This engine will be used for drag racing only! Thanks, Mike in NC.

what kind of rings are you running?a good rule of thumb is .004'' for every inch of bore,so a say 4'' bore would have .016'' gap.on the top ring.
these are figures on a naturaly asperated engine.if you run nitrous or a blower they will have more gap do to heat
