Proper way to get push rod length

My application requires custom length push rods.. I got a ajustable push rod checker from comp cams. When I have zero lash with the ajustable push rod, do I need to add any amount to my measurement for lifter plunger depth??. There must be some sort of measurement as to where the plunger needs to be in the lifter.??? Thx..

If you figure .020 extra you will be in the ball park. Tho most performance lifters, when properly adjusted, are less than .010 down.

Are you using adjustable or non-adjustable rocker arms? My thought would be to collapse the lifter as outlined in a shop manual to find the correct lash (possible different plunger travel with different manufacturer tappets). Then adjust push rod to this length and do final check on geometry. This will give correct lash with non-adjustable and give you plenty of variance with adjustable.
