i have some spots where the paint is gone all over my car. The surface rust is becoming deep pitted rust. I have taken most of this out using naval jelly so its bare steel again. i need to protect all these little spots. what is the best method.
spray can primer and spray paint after removing the naval jelly residue
yes i am going to paint it with spi epoxy primer, then high build, nason red and clear. this is pitted stuff. Im really starting to hate pitted metal. you can't get stuff out of the pits. so if i paint it with rustoleum its almost impossible without sand blasting to get it all out really well. cant use straight primer. it will just rust through it
i would get all the black out. If you have to buy a small blaster and blast it. If you are on a tight budget i would use a rust inhibator primer that would be your next best thing.
but i would want all the black out of the pit then epoxy and fill
Yea I wouldn't waste my time with and spray can primer, Its porous and will absorb moisture and you will still get rust, spot blast and epoxy primer is the only right way to go.
Good point DBM, thanks for pointing that out
