pump cam

I was told that I can turn my pump cam upside down and I would get a faster squirt when I nail the throttle. It's a 770 holley and I have yet to overcome a hesitation when I punch her. I have my idle screws out just about 1 turn. Does 1 turn seem like not enough because my plugs are still sooty and I'm not sure if I would be safe turning them in any more? I realize I need to change jet size also if I'm burning to rich at cruise.
Thank You in advance for your help.

The cam has another set of screw holes that will give you a quicker squirt, Try that. If it isn't what you want, Holly has several different colored cams that will Taylor the acc. squirt. HTH

I get the right powervalve first. Then I fine tune using the pump cams and squirters. You want the leanest ones of each that don't cause a miss.

Behind the throttle arm. They are the plastic C-shaped things that the acceleratot pump arms ride on. They are held by a single screw.

The best way to increase how fast the accelerator pump shot comes in, is to increase the squirter size. Don't forget however that increasing the squirter size will shorten pump shot duration.

Buy the pump cam kit from Holley, best investment you will ever make.

The pump cam kit works well to adjust overall volume of the pump shot. To fine tune you will need an assortment of squirters.

hmmm... carbeurator anatomy should've been offfered to me back in school... but being class of '04 I read how much nitrous it took to blow up a junkyard dodge 318 in Car Craft.

Of course, this was during English class; among other courses of study (call it fine works of Automotive Literature by the editors of Car Craft).

Your pump should squirt as soon as you idle up, iff float and pump cam settings are correct.

As soon as you touch the throttle, iff it doesnt do that its missing out on an important part of nailing the sucker.
