Carters are much better then edelbrocks in my opinion! But I cant tell you that one is good,It looks rough, and if the internals have corroded or small passages pluged or gaskets have shrunk! You would be better off getting a rebuilt or new carb Then fooling with the old carter! That carb came on the early 348-409 , 396-427 and hasn't been produced in many years!

DON'T SAND BLAST IT!!! Gunk it!!! and blow out the passages with the spray carb. cleaner and blow it off with air, use a brush if necessary!

Yes thats your carb on the video

Take the carb apart completely and thoroughly clean all of the pieces in the gunk Among the spots in a Carter carburetor that can get the most built-up are bleed vents, so make sure to get these as clean as you can. The best way to clean the parts is to soak them in carburetor cleaner overnight some a couple of days. Before putting the pieces together, take them out of the carburetor cleaner and brush them down with a small hand held brass wire brush, wear safty goggles and gloves then blow the carburetor off with compressed air. Make sure to blast air through every hole in every component of the carburetor use a small wire in the holes if needed to dislodge material but dont push so hard as to jamb a build up in the hole
including the needle valves, float valves and bleed vents. blow back in the opposite direction as you pushed the wire! Use spray carb cleaner all the while you are cleaning so as nothing dries and adheres in the carb passages!

Wezz dont use the carb cleaner around any lit pilots or open furnace flame Etc, you will have an explosion, and wear a ventilator mask with a carbon filter!!! The ones for car painting are very good if your in an inclosed area!!!!

throttle shafts, will need extra care, These pieces must keep their shape as closely as possible. If the throttle shaft loses too much metal due to excessive scrubbing or sanding, you may get a vacuum leak through the shaft bores the shaft bores are also very impotent to keep their shape and size do not sand or run a stiff wire brush through them just run a swab with carb cleaner through them like swabbing a gun bore!!
